My Experience

I run my own successful private practice in Docklands and Chelmsford. I also hold the post of Consultant Psychotherapist for Toynbee Hall and work for Matrix College of Counselling and Psychotherapy as a Lecturer and Year 3 Programme Lead on their BSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

I have experience of working as a counsellor within the NHS, in Primary Care. I have also worked for a Domestic Violence project with female survivors of Domestic Violence. Within the Domestic Violence project, I co-facilitated a women only therapy group for survivors called 'Walking on Eggshells'.

I worked with the MSM community and with the African and Caribbean population specifically related to HIV as part of my work as a counsellor at The Terrence Higgins Trust for 5 years. I also co-facilitated addictions groups for this demographic, and designed a specialist training in working with Chem-Sex. I set up and facilitated a Mindfulness group as part of THT's counselling service, CONNECT and I also worked for a sister project, SWISH, as a counsellor and group facilitator, working with men and women involved in the sex industry. I designed and ran groups focussing on Intimacy, Resilience and Mindfulness. I trained the Counselling and Psychotherapy staff to work within a Trauma framework when working with issues of addiction.

In affiliation with The Minster Centre and Middlesex University, I researched the experience of childlessness, interviewing different women with very different values, beliefs and lifestyles but with being childless in common. My findings are the basis for my developing clinical work with the growing childless population. This work sparked my interest in resilience, Post Traumatic Growth and creativity, which has become an important part of my clinical practice.

Through my Yoga Therapy work, both in the arena of Mental Health and with Special Needs children, I have had invaluable experience of sensing my way through bodily communications that were unable to be articulated by talking. This has, I believe, enabled me to become a more attuned therapist, with a strong embodied awareness of developmental stages and non verbal material. I taught 8 week yoga and mindfulness protocols for Harvard Research on anxiety in affiliation with The Minded Institute.

I collaborated with Moving Pieces Therapeutic Physical Theatre Company, devising, directing and presenting a new model for working with 'Trauma in the Body'. We presented this model at the 2012 International Conference of Body Psychotherapists, Cambridge University.
